Surprise U-Turn: 100ml Liquid Rule Reinstated at UK Airports Ahead of Summer Travel

I’ve got some important news for all travellers gearing up for the summer holidays.

In a surprising turn of events, the government has decided to reintroduce the 100ml liquids rule at several UK airports. This comes after concerns were raised about the new scanning equipment that was supposed to make our lives easier by allowing us to keep liquids in our hand luggage.

Unfortunately, the new scanners have led to longer queues and confusion, with harmless items like sunscreen being flagged as high-risk. As a result, airports with these new systems have been told to revert to the old rules from midnight on Saturday. This means that you’ll need to stick to carrying 100ml containers for liquids, aerosols, and gels if you’re flying out of London City, Newcastle, Leeds Bradford, Aberdeen, Southend, or Teesside.

The Department for Transport (DfT) assures us that this is a temporary measure to improve the new systems, and for most passengers, nothing will change. However, for those traveling from the affected airports, it’s back to the familiar routine of clear plastic bags and 100ml limits.

Transport Secretary Mark Harper explained that this step is necessary to maintain our top-notch security standards while the kinks in the new systems are worked out. So, while it’s a bit of a hassle, it’s all in the name of keeping us safe.

Birmingham airport had already brought back the 100ml rule a few days ago due to regulatory issues, but they also allow you to keep these liquids in your hand luggage without needing a separate bag. The same will apply to the other affected airports – liquids under 100ml can stay in your cabin baggage, no need to take them out.

So, if you’re flying from one of these six airports, make sure you’re prepared to comply with the 100ml rule to avoid any delays at security. Let’s hope these issues are sorted out quickly so we can all enjoy smoother travel experiences soon.
